Your Journey

  1. Your starting point

    What is this book about?

    • It helps you see what matters today, one clear priority when multiple are competing for attention.

    • It tells you why you've been stuck, when you feel you are.

    • It gets you return to your optimal zone of performance, where you naturally win.

Every stage of life brings its goals

Life keeps moving, and it never moves the same way twice. Not for you, not for anyone.

Think back to school. You had goals back then. Pass the test, make the team, get through the year. Then school ended, and a whole new set of goals showed up in its place. College brought its own list. And now that you're past that too, a fresh set of goals is already tapping you on the shoulder, asking for your attention.

This is just how life works. At every stage, something sits out ahead of you, waiting. A goal, a milestone... a version of your life you haven't reached yet.

Goal = version of life different than today

Here's a simple way to think about it. A goal is anything different, usually bigger than the life you're living right now. That's actually the whole definition. The moment something stops being bigger than today, it stops being a goal. It just becomes part of your life already.

Everything you've built so far, you can be proud of. Genuinely. But there's more ahead, and reaching it takes a bit of structure. A bit of planning. You can't drift toward a bigger life by accident. Someone has to actually steer.

Why someone else's planner never quite fits

If you've read anything about personal growth, you've probably tried a planner, e.g. a system, a morning routine or a ritual you found online, the one that worked wonders for somebody else.

And it probably didn't stick or fit into your life. May be you struggled to bend your life around it for a few days in and then you stopped trying.

Here's the thing not commonly thought about, the planner not working wasn't your fault. Every life is different and every life carries its own set of pressures, chances and limitations. A planner built around one person's exact life is only ever going to fit that one life. You can borrow the idea behind it and mould it around you, but you just can't wear the whole thing and expect it to fit as perfectly as it does to someone else.

Think about a glove. A glove has five fingers, and so does your hand, which is exactly why it fits. But your life isn't a hand. It's something far complex, far messier and has far more moving parts, shaped by things unique to you. So when someone else's routine slips off you after a week, that's not proof you're lazy or didn't want your goal enough. It's proof the glove was never yours to begin with.

    What you actually need instead

What you need isn't someone else's planner. You need something that's built around your unique life. Something that bends where your life bends, and holds firm where your life needs holding.

Think about your skeleton for a second. It's rigid enough to hold you up, and flexible enough to let you run, bend, and reach. That balance is exactly what makes it work. Too rigid, and it would snap the first time life pushed back. Too loose, and you'd collapse under your own weight.

A good daily system works the same way. It gives you enough structure to keep moving toward what matters, and enough flexibility to bend when life inevitably throws something at you.

What this simple planner actually does for you

Think of it like a pair of glasses. It doesn't change what's in front of you. It just helps you see it more clearly.

This planner shows you what actually matters today. It gives you a simple way to check how your days are really going, not how you assume they're going. And it helps you spot the exact gap between where you are and where you're trying to get to, so you can close it faster instead of wandering toward it.

That's really all a good system does. It helps you see clearly, measure honestly, and act on what matters.

Don't skip the good part already happening

One last thing, and it matters more than it sounds.

We often treat happiness as something waiting for us at the finish line. Get the goal, then get to be happy. But that's not quite right. Happiness is built from small things going well, not just big things finally arriving.

So while you're working toward tomorrow, don't rush past today. The small stuff you're doing right now, the ordinary responsibilities, the people you're showing up for, they matter too. You're not just building toward a bigger life somewhere out there. You're also living a real one right now, and that one deserves your attention too.

    The Physics of Moving Forward

You now know where you are. You know that you need a flexible skeleton, not a rigid straitjacket. And you have a goal in mind—a version of your life that is bigger than today.

But this brings us to a rather frustrating mystery.

If you have a goal you genuinely care about, and you desperately want to reach that bigger life... why do you still feel completely stuck? Why do we set targets we deeply desire, yet remain frozen in place, making absolutely zero progress toward them?

To answer that, we have to look at the invisible forces acting on you, and the hidden friction standing between you and your goals.

And I promise, it is nowhere near as geeky as it sounds.

Ready? Let's turn to Chapter 1.

    Four Forces of Progress

By the end of this chapter, you will be able to: Name the four forces acting on you around a goal: Pull, Push, Habit and Anxiety. Use the equation (Push + Pull) > (Habit + Anxiety) to see why you may want a change and still not move. Spot when busy work is replacing the next step towards your goal.

    Chapter 02

    A Goal Worth Your Life

Choose a goal worth your life , and write a Statement of Clarity that names the role, the goal itself, and the meaning your goal is meant to deliver.

  4. Where you want to be

    Where would you arrive

Picture yourself on an ordinary day a few months from now.

You wake up knowing what matters today. You know what to say yes to and what to say no to, and you feel calm about both. That clarity comes from knowing why your goal matters to you.

However the day turns out, you know where your spare time should go when it finally shows up. When you give something your time, effort or money, you give it fully. You're at peace with the choice, so you can stay present for the other things that matter too.

Life keeps happening around you, and you keep moving at a pace that suits it. You know your path forward. You can look back on the last week or month and feel good about where your attention went.

That's what happiness is: getting a little better each day, and knowing you're looking after everything that counts. Your main goal is part of that, because it's shaping your life and the lives of the people around you.

This is a life lived on purpose, and every step of it can feel like a gift.
